What About Jesus?
Part 6: What Does Jesus Want With Me?
So what does Jesus want from you? He wants to be your Savior and He wants to be your Lord...
Savior = Deliverer, Rescuer, Redeemer
Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with you. God created you and cares deeply about you. If Jesus cares enough about you to pay for your sin by dying in your place, it should be obvious that He loves you. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
He wants to heal your soul of its sin so you can have a relationship with Him. We see this when Jesus is questioned about the people around Him. “And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, ‘How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?’ When Jesus heard it, He said to them, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.’” (Mark 2:16-17) He came to earth specifically to help sinners—that is you and me!
Jesus wants to give us eternal life and rescue us from Hell. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” (John 5:24) That eternal life is also a new life on Earth. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (II Corinthians 5:17) In Jesus, there is a new you to replace the sinful you.
Lord = Ruler, Master, King
Part of the personal relationship that Jesus wants with you is to be your Lord. He does not save you just so you can live however you want and forget about Him. He wants us to obey His commands. Jesus said, “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” (John 15:14) The first command is a principle that can change how you live your life…
Jesus wants us to love Him and others. “Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:37-39)
If we love Jesus and are caring about others (our neighbors), we will want to share how people can have the eternal life that Jesus offers. “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’” (Matthew 28:18-19)
When we obey Jesus commands, not only do we show love for Him, but people around us will see the change in our lives and may want to know what brought it about. That is a perfect opportunity to tell them about Jesus!
